SKU: 0345M

Added by : Mark Raynsford

Description

A genuine U.S. World War II Mk II fragmentation grenade, commonly referred to as the “pineapple” grenade, offered here as a fully inert collectible example. This piece retains clear period character and presents as an honest, un-messed-with example suitable for a militaria collection or display.

The grenade body shows its characteristic segmented cast-iron form, with visible remnants of period paint. As seen, the body appears to have originally been yellow and later overpainted olive drab, consistent with known wartime finishes. The grenade is completely inert and safe, intended for display purposes only.

Body

The cast-iron body remains solid and well-defined, with good definition to the segmented exterior. Surface wear is consistent with age and service handling, with no cracks or structural issues noted. The segmented form gave the grenade its well-known “pineapple” nickname and also provided improved grip when handled in the field. There are two initials on one side of the body, “A F” this refers to “American Fireworks”.

Fuse

Fitted with an M10A2 series fuse, clearly marked to the top. The fuse assembly appears complete and intact, with expected wear and patina consistent with age. The presence of this fuse type is correct for period examples, though no claim is made as to exact date of installation.

Condition

Overall condition is good for a wartime example. The grenade shows honest service wear, surface patina, and age-related finish loss, all of which are entirely in keeping with original period pieces. No repairs or alterations are apparent.

Overall

A solid, honest example of an iconic U.S. World War II grenade. Ideal for collectors looking to add a representative Mk II “pineapple” grenade to their collection without over-polished or over-described presentation.

Historical Note

The U.S. Mk II grenade was one of the most widely recognised hand grenades of the Second World War. Its segmented cast-iron body led to the popular “pineapple” nickname and made it instantly recognisable. The Mk II saw extensive service throughout WWII and remained in use into the post-war period before being gradually phased out.
