WWI German 98/05 “Butcher” Bayonet Frog – Maker Marked

Description
An original German 98/05 “Butcher” bayonet leather frog, offered on its own — which is becoming increasingly difficult to source. Most surviving examples remain paired with their bayonets, so the opportunity to purchase a singular, honest example like this is getting scarcer.
This is a good, solid frog with strong structure, holding its shape well. The stitching remains completely intact and tight throughout, and all four rivets are present, secure, and undisturbed.
There is honest age-related wear, entirely consistent with a piece over 100 years old. At the very top there is a small rip, which does not affect the structural integrity or function of the frog. Close-up photographs will clearly show this detail for transparency.
To the rear upper section, the frog is maker marked. The marking is present but unfortunately difficult to decipher. Detailed photographs are provided.
Overall, this is a very good, untouched example that would complement an original WWI German 98/05 butcher bayonet beautifully.
Overall
A structurally strong, honest, and increasingly hard-to-find standalone 98/05 leather frog. Ideal for completing a display or upgrading.
Historical Note
The German 98/05 bayonet frog was designed specifically to support the weight and size of the substantial “Butcher” bayonet. These frogs were produced in significant numbers during the First World War, yet standalone examples have become much harder to source today.
